This post is satirical, just to induce some laughs. Hope you enjoyed reading about our (nonsensical) vision of the Next Next Gen Sequencer!
MiSeq i1000 (you didn’t read that wrong) is a sequencer sent to our time, from Illumina in the future. How cool (or how cute) is that? Here’s the list of things it can (and cannot) do:
Can do
- Onboard AI voice assistant (i.e. Siri) so it talks!
- Onboard LLM means it is (nearly) sentient – rather than an assistant, it is a partner
- Has access to the global genome repository, it will automatically fetch similar results and analyses and relevant academic papers
- Automatically suggest prepare post-sequencing downstream tasks for human-in-the-loop feedback
- Provide accurate and detailed holographic visualisations of protein structures
- Read you the news to keep you entertained while you are waiting for results
- Scold you when you fumble while inserting its cartridge
- Double check your library prep to prevent you from making mistakes
- Remind you about the weather so that you will remember to take an umbrella if its going to rain
Cannot do:
- Make coffee
- Dance (it still doesnt have legs). But it can play music
- Count the number of ‘r’s in ‘strawberry’ – don’t worry, it is not going to become Skynet in the future
Here’s MiSeq i1000 in action.
